Subject: 2010 Florida Paddlers' Rendezvous - message to paddling clubs of Florida

Greetings....
Mark your Calendars now --
for the 2010 Florida Paddlers’ Rendezvous, October 21-24.

FL Sport Paddling Club (FSPC)  proudly continues the Rendezvous tradition of bringing together Florida paddling clubs and paddling enthusiasts for a weekend of fun, friends and paddles.

This year's base camp will be the Silver River State Park campground from which we will launch four days of trips that canoeists and kayakers of all skill levels will enjoy.   Also join the potluck supper, program, nightly campfires, paddlers’ swap meet, and the wonderful exchange of friendship and paddling skills that evolves when so many with like interests come together.

The main event will take place Friday-Sunday, October 22-24, 2010.  Make your reservations at Silver River SP now!!  Pre-Rendezvous paddles will be held Thursday, October 21, for those who can come early.    Trip details and a list of additional accommodations will follow when we have a website set up.

Please help us reach  all who may be interested.  Verify your club's contact names and addresses.  Forward to your club members and  post on your calendars.   Send us any additional contacts you may have.  Please email Kathy, publicity chair, at KathrynVaughn@ATT..net with your questions, suggestions or information.

Happy Paddling and we hope to see you in October!!

Erica Johnson,

Commodore, Florida Sport Paddling Club

Subject: new kayak landing -- looking for feedback

Hi paddlers,

Lee County Parks & Recreation is in the process of applying for a permit to make improvements to an oxbow island in the Caloosahatchee -- Columbus G. McLeod Preserve. Even if you don't know where that is, here is my question for you:

What's the best surface for a kayak landing on this island? It's not like an "normal" landing. Read on:

The surface has to be something that is way low maintenance and not susceptible to erosion. The easy thing to do would be to do river rock on a limerock base. But that would be annoying because it could/would scratch your hull, right? The surface must be low maintenance because staff won't be able to visit there often -- maybe just four times a year. The landing would be away from the main river channel on the calm side/the oxbow side. It's pretty much a primitive landing with small improvements.

So within those parameters, tell me your thoughts on how it should look/be. This process is in the early stages, so there's time for informal input from a few blueway helpers such as yourselves. E-mail me your thoughts by Jan. 7, if you'd like.

Thanks,
Betsy

PS: By the way, this won't come to pass for several years. Parks & Rec is doing the permitting now along with another project but likely won’t have funding for a while….

To all GCBP Members and Friends...

We now have the GCBP Yahoo Group up and running.  Anyone subscribing to the group may post messages, photos, files, links, etc.   Please join the group, as this will greatly facilitate notifications of paddles and be a tremendous assistance to Rusty, our webmaster.   The club website will still be our mainstay reference point, but the GCBP Yahoo group will be a valuable supplement to the website.

You may join by visiting this link:
